The Ph D coordinator can assist with further information in this process.
Normally, the seven copies submitted are regular prints.
The application for assessment of the doctoral thesis may only be submitted to the faculty after the required coursework has been approved and a proposal with the composition of the Evaluation Committee must be sent (with or without the thesis) to the faculty's Doctoral Committee.
A completed press release form from the Ph D candidate must also be handed in at a later stage.
This applies to both first submissions and resubmissions.
Before the final thesis is submitted for examination students should contact the PGR Team for information on the procedures to be followed for submitting the final copy of their thesis through Turnitin. The press release form must be submitted once the dissertation is approved for public defence. The completed form and the portrait photograph (high resolution) are handed in, either directly to the Department of Strategy and Communication or to the Ph D coordinator. If the candidate wishes for the press release to be sent to a particular newspaper, he/she can express this is as a special request.By regulation, the summary/abstract (which should be prepared by the candidate in consultation with the supervisor) should not exceed 300 words in length. Each bound copy of the thesis must contain a summary/abstract within it.The University requires all theses for higher degrees by research to be submitted to Turnitin, a text matching tool that is licensed for use in the University of Sheffield where, among other things, it is being used as an aid in the prevention of unfair means.Turnitin produces an ‘originality report’ which will be checked by the internal examiner to ensure that unfair means has not been used.Students should be aware that there is a limit to the size of file that can be submitted to Turnitin, which is 400 pages and 40MB.Students whose theses exceed the Turnitin limit may need to exclude pictures or diagrams in order to successfully submit to Turnitin.I recently submitted my full draft thesis to my three supervisors to check.Prior to that each chapter had been checked by at least one supervisor, and at least two revisions had been made to each chapter. I was however expecting to be over the moon; however to be completely honest, I feel lost without my thesis.
