This material is supplemented with journal clubs and more advanced courses in molecular and classical genetics and modern applications, including genomics and gene therapy during the later terms. You may also take relevant elective courses offered by other programs at Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, The University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston, or the University of Houston at any time during your graduate school tenure.During the first year, you will participate in a minimum of three laboratory rotations.
The variety and amount of genetic and molecular data generated by novel laboratory techniques continues to accelerate, and these data are increasingly integrated into epidemiologic research.
The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology (GME) certificate program at Rollins prepares students to assess, manage, and analyze these data in the context of scientific and public health utilities.

Applied Practice Experience (0 credits): The student’s Applied Practice Experience should be relevant to genetic or molecular epidemiology and will be approved by the certificate director.
Students may enroll in EPI 510 and apply to the certificate in their second year with the permission of the certificate director. Students must submit a completed APE worksheet or a 1-2 paragraph description of their proposed practicum to the Program Directors.
Students are responsible for gaining certificate practicum approval prior to starting the practicum experience.
They include introductory courses such as "Concepts and Techniques in plant biology" and "Laboratory in Plant Biology," as welll as discussion format courses such as "Current Papers in Plant Biology." Selective courses are tailored to students’ research interest.
They cover a wide range of topics at an advanced level ranging from "Plant Biochemistry" to "Botanical Nomenclature." They can be one-semester long or one-month long (named modules).
Modules offer in-depth discussion on specific topics such as ‘Signal transduction in plants" and "Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry." The weekly student seminar series is based on student thesis research (each student once per year), typically followed by a meeting with the student’s thesis committee members.
Internationally recognized speakers are also invited to discuss their work as part of the weekly Plant Biology seminar series.
