As another poet said: My days among the dead are past, Around me I behold, Whenever these casual eyes are cast, The rightly minds of old; My never-failing friends are they, With whom I converse day by day. Books make our world bright and light up our souls with brilliant ideas. The sages of all ages have left their foot-prints on the sands of time through the books.

To a truly educated man, books provide the greatest of pleasures. They begin to hate books after they get through the examinations, by hook or by crook, by fair or foul means. Reading of books broadens the horizon of our knowledge and deepens our outlook on life. They keep our company in all our trials, troubles, toils, turmoil’s and tribulations. By reading immortal books of immortal authors we feel imported into kingdoms of new joy and adventure. A sweet forgetfulness overtakes our minds and souls.

It was the English author Bacon who said that reading makes a full man. But we cannot derive full advantage from reading, if our choice is not good.

Some books are such that instead of doing any good, they do positive harm to the readers. Cheap books, not in cost but in contents, should not be read, even if they provide some amusement and entertainment.

Books are our best friend both in poverty and prosperity.

Books alone are dependable when all other friends become undependable.Reading a book is perhaps the greatest source of pleasure to a cultured person.Reading broadens his outlook, drives away his narrow prejudices and lightens up his mind with truth and knowledge. They never deceive or desert us in our hour of need like so many of our human friends, and the advantages once received from the reading of books remain with us throughout our lives. It is the reading of good books alone which bestows upon us the maximum benefit.Reading of good books is the key to the store-house of pleasure Reading a book is perhaps the greatest source of pleasure to a cultured person.Unfortunately, most of the people today are not properly educated. It eliminates our prejudices and illumines our mind with truth and knowledge. It is through books that we become acquainted with great minds like those of Kalidas, Patanjali, Lord Krisha, Shakespeare, Shelly, Keats and others. By reading these books we may say to have lived for thousands of years ourselves.Life is nothing but the sum total of experiments and experiences.Only our ideas and results of our action go with us when we shuffle off the mortal coil. Reading is the best means of spending your leisure. It is the pleasure of leisure and leisure of pleasure.A person given to the reading of books can never find time hanging heavily on him. When you have time and no work to do take a book from the shelf and time will pass pleasantly. When one is struck down with sorrow he may, with a book in his hand, forget all his trouble in the comfort of his bedroom or under the shade of a tree.
